PSNI Chief Constable Jon Boutcher said officers came under attack, two were injured, water cannon was used in the Cloughfern area of Newtownabbey and three people had been arrested so far in Belfast and Newtownabbey. He said businesses, homes, cars, a police car and a Glider bus had been attacked or set on fire, and that several families had left homes during the disturbances.

The Irish News reported that police in riot gear came under attack from missiles near Sandyknowes Roundabout on Wednesday evening, after a vehicle in a nearby Department for Infrastructure yard had been set on fire. The report said the disorder was close to where an anti-immigration protest had earlier taken place at the Chimney Corner Hotel.

The Guardian reported that about 300 people were involved in a second night of disorder and that a crowd reportedly planned to target a nearby hotel believed to host migrants. It also reported that the family of Stephen Ogilvie, the victim of the knife attack, appealed for peaceful protest and said false information circulating online had worsened tensions.

Al Jazeera reported on 12 June that ethnic minority communities in Belfast were living with fear after anti-immigrant violence, including attacks on homes and businesses. CBS News reported that lists of Belfast addresses said to belong to immigrants and their families had circulated online during the unrest.

The Guardian reported on 12 June that the number of arrests after the riots had risen to 19, including a 16-year-old boy. It reported that Stephen Ogilvie was recovering from serious injuries and that a suspect had been charged with attempted murder. Those legal facts remain separate from claims made in social media posts after the attack.

Newtownabbey is a town north of Belfast. Sandyknowes Roundabout, the Chimney Corner Hotel and the Department for Infrastructure yard are the specific local sites named in the Irish News reporting on the Wednesday evening disorder. PSNI's 10 June statement separately identified Cloughfern as the area where water cannon was used during the police public-safety operation.
