The result gives Germany three points from its first group match. The scoreline also records Curacao's World Cup debut in the official competition record, with Comenecia's goal briefly making the match 1-1 before Germany restored its lead before half-time.
ESPN's match report also recorded the 7-1 final score and said Havertz scored two goals as Germany pulled away late in the opening half and added further goals after the interval. The Guardian's live report recorded the same score and the Curacao equaliser before Germany's second goal.
The match sequence was uneven rather than one-note. Germany led after six minutes, conceded in the 21st, restored the lead through Schlotterbeck and then reached half-time at 3-1 after Havertz's penalty. Musiala's goal two minutes into the second half changed the match from a live contest into a controlled German result, before Brown, Undav and Havertz added the final three goals.
FIFA named Havertz as player of the match after his two goals. The award fits the scoring record but does not replace the broader match account: Nmecha opened the scoring, Schlotterbeck restored Germany's lead, Musiala scored immediately after the interval, and two substitutes, Brown and Undav, were among the second-half scorers.
