Fox's Roku deal is about owning the streaming doorway
Fox's planned $22bn acquisition of Roku is less a bet on another library of shows than a move for the doorway through which streaming television is found, sold and measured. Fox Corporation and Roku said on Monday that they had agreed a cash-and-stock transaction that would put Fox's live news and sports, Tubi and The Roku Channel inside the same company as Roku's operating system, hardware business and advertising platform.
